Discharge is very important to make sure that your transition from Greensborough Day Surgery to home runs as smoothly as possible. Our doctors and nursing staff are happy to answer any questions during your stay with us concerning discharge or your follow up care.
If you are having your procedure under a sedation or general anaesthetic you must arrange for a responsible adult to pick you up and stay with you overnight. If your procedure is being done under local anaesthetic, we recommend that you have someone drive you home.
As soon as your observations are stable and you are alert following your procedure, you will be transferred from first stage recovery to a recliner chair in the second stage recovery area where you will be offered light refreshments. The recovery nurse will contact your escort when you are ready to be discharged.
To be ready for discharge patients will:
- Be alert and orientated
- Tolerate fluids
- Have a responsible adult to take them home, and care for them at home
- Have clear written post procedure instructions/education, post procedure care and details of who to contact in an emergency
- Have a follow up appointment made, if appropriate.
After a General Anaesthetic or IV Sedation, please do not drive a motor vehicle, operate machinery or domestic appliances, sign important documents, make important decisions or drink alcohol for at least 24 hours post sedation.
When leaving the hospital please make sure that you have all your personal effects, medications, and follow up instructions.
If you have any queries or concerns please feel free to contact our friendly staff who will endeavour to answer any questions you may have.
